Volumia in glass – Jochen Peters creates a giant glass molar

Volumia in glass – Jochen Peters creates a giant glass molar
02 / 2008 – February got off to a good start when Jochen Peters, one of Europeans most well-respected dental technicians, took up a challenge set by Elephant Dental to create several XXL premolars in transparant, opal, white and black glass.

Molars in size XXL
Jochen Peters aims to improve the dialogue between dentist, dental technician and patient. He does this, among other things, by making (pre)molars in size XXL, which has previously led him to shaping a 16 feet molar made of snow, a 7 feet molar made of aerated concrete and a 20 inch molar made of wood.

When Elephant Dental challenged him to create several 19 inch premolars in glass, in the presence of a small group of highly respected customers, he didn´t hesitate.

Same technique, different material
Glass is closely related to the porcelain used in dental technique. The principle of glassblowing and that of Volumia overpress technique also shows some resemblance, but glass requires a completely different way of processing. The master therefore needed, prior to this event, a full day of practising at Van Tetterode Glassobjects in Amsterdam.

The final result is self-explanatory. A number of very distinctive objects which can be viewed at our headoffice in Hoorn or in the future at tradeshows and other events.
