Dentprogress 2013 module: Virtual Bioarticulator Schouten Dental
The dentProgress Bioarticulator is an enhancement of its predecessor,
the smart optics Virtual Articulator. As opposed to conventional
physical articulators moving along rigid, mechanically-limited lines,
the virtual Bioarticulator simulates natural jaw movement. This allows
the condylar displacement to be precisely calculated as a kinematic
hinge axis when carrying out exkursive movements or adjusting the
occlusal height. Through the simulation of a natural initial movement,
occlusal contacts are detected in advance and eliminated. Settings
from physical articulators such as SAM® and Artex® can be carried over
to the Bioarticulator and factored into relevant calculations.
As well, it is possible to give Bioarticulator the electronically-recorded
chewing and exkursive motions of patients and play them back at
any point during construction. This establishes Bioarticulator as the
first-ever tool to allow analysis of the articulation from its initial state
and every step of the way to precisely-calculated articulation taking all
chewing and sliding surfaces into account.
With the combination of an Activity 885, 880 or 102 scanner and a
smart optics ScanFixator, it is possible to pass on articulated models
that are cranially-situated.
